My students need these books to be able to choose books they want to read, so they will have a rich reading life. WE need books like Berries to Jelly and Max's Chocolate Chicken.
My students come from all backgrounds, and are in a high-poverty, rural school district. They have all different experiences and background knowledge. In trying to give each student the best reading education possible, I am using reading workshop in my classroom. Reading Workshop is tailored to each student's needs. In order to serve those needs, my classroom needs a lot of different books for each child to read and discuss each week.
My students love books and are excited to read the books they have chosen for themselves every day.
They read about 10 different books a week, so they need new books to read and talk about each week. This requires a large volume of books. Being able to choose your own books gives students confidence and excitement towards reading. This will give them a lifelong love of reading to take with them throughout life.
My Project
Having these books, including Henry and Mudge, Amelia Bedelia, and Mr. Putter & Tabby, in my classroom will give students a variety in the books they choose to read. They will use these books every day in the classroom. They will be able to expand their reading knowledge through the use of these books. The students will become more confident and develop a rich reading life.
These books will create excitement for reading and help the students grow to become lifelong readers!
Allowing students to pick their own books to read will help them grow as a reader and help them love reading. This will help the students achieve their reading goals at their own pace and interest level.
