This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is made up of 32 low income students, 13 girls and 19 boys. I have 19 English Language Learners who need Total Physical Response and other Visual, and or auditory scaffolds to increase their English language development. The rest of my students are reclassified English Learners. As a 1 to 1 iPad school, the students have become literate in utilizing multiple applications like iMovie, and Keynote. They are enthusiastic and highly motivated by technology, which is enhancing their learning tremendously.

My Project

According to Morrow & Weinstein, 1986; Neuman & Roskos, 1992 children need an attractive setting to read in. I have a variety of books available in my library, but In order to encourage life long readers I need a Cozy Reading Corner. "Children are more likely to visit classroom libraries and actively participate in them when they are physically attractive." One of these features is variety of comfortable seating.

Pillows, carpeting, variety of chairs help to create a comfy atmosphere for reading to encourage reading for pleasure, which will foster life long readers.

My students need a rug in order to be able to sit comfortably on the floor to read. We also need stools in order to provide another option for students to read books in our library. Lastly, they need benches with cushions to allow them to sit, relax and enjoy reading in a cozy environment. Another item to help students be relaxed when reading in our class is a large pillow to sit on. In order to foster an attractive reading corner we need pillows, a carpet, stools and benches with cushions.
