My Project
This project is geared towards my readers with some books to strengthen our classroom library, headphones to help keep it quiet, pencils to write down our thoughts, some snacks to reward those exceptional readers, and a few games to play after reading.
Reading is key to building good communication skills as we build vocabulary through repeated exposure to the many words out there.
As my students vocabulary builds they can express and ask questions that further their understanding. The stories they read also help form their thoughts and questions in the learning process.
Classrooms can be loud and computer use can potentially cause a lot of the noise. Headphones let the students more independently work while not interfering with their peers. A student that can clearly hear the audio of an app is more like to succeed with the math or reading it focuses on.
Pencils are also helpful to furthering their communication development. They can write their thoughts using the new or difficult words they are reading down. Increasing their use and opportunity with words means they will use them more and understand them longer.
Its always great to get a treat after reading, but sometimes its even better to one before. A hungry stomach is a big distractor for reading and these treats would help wither before or after to motivate the reading.
Whether its a rainy day or just after finishing a book, these games with help students strategically think and brain storm ways to succeed as they play their peers.
