My Project

Early, easy access to books is an essential component of academic success and brain development. Our classroom library is a place to listen to read-alouds, practice reading independently, share a story with a friend, and work with one's reading groups. Thanks to the amazing DonorsChoose community, we have a growing variety of high-quality books, fun and comfortable seating options, and a plush new carpet. However, our library could still be better. This project is focused on acquiring some of the best, new children's books available. Books are a window to the wider world. These titles are inclusive and tell stories from all walks of life. It is my hope that reading these stories with my students will help foster a love of literature among my students.

These new books will allow for greater student choice in what to read and help strengthen emerging literacy skills.

Personal choice is a huge motivator for young readers. A wide variety of titles caters to more interests and reading levels. By exposing my class to new authors and stories, I hope to encourage my students to become lifelong readers and to help strengthen their writing skills.
