Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 21st Century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 30 curious, fourth grade scientists in a small, Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.
Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.
Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
Sometimes students need a place where they can reflect on their lessons, activities and interactions with others. In my classroom I create the type of environment where students believe and know that everyone learns differently.
Student-centered comfortable seating encourages children to be committed to learning and accept each other's individuality.
Acceptance and appreciation of the diverse world starts with respecting each other in the classroom and working closely together. I have transformed my classroom from standard desks to round tables, allowing for genuine collaboration and sharing. The Ethos Node chair requested will give my students a place where they can quietly reflect on the days activities or privately record wonderings and thoughts in their journals. My ultimate goal is to have multiple chairs for small group work and collaboration. This project is the first step towards that goal.
