A Quiet Place for Calming Down

Help me give my students the tools they need to regulate their emotions in the classroom!

My Project

A calm corner is essential for my fourth grade classroom. Students feel big emotions and a calm corner gives students a safe and supportive space to regulate their feelings. Because it is a physical space with tools, our classroom calm corner serves as a visual reminder to pause and breathe through big feelings.

With these self-regulation tools, my fourth graders will learn how to manage their emotions.

Fidget toys such as sensory tubes, breathing balls, water beads, and maze boards will help my students regulate their emotions, cope with stress, and use mindfulness practices. Sand timers will help my students manage their time while in the calm corner. The emotions dice will help my students learn different calming strategies they can use in any environment. A bean bag chair will provide my students with a comfortable seat to help regulate their physical body. Books have been chosen for students to read which will help them ground themselves in the moment while learning different calming strategies.

With these tools, our calm corner will help my students become more aware of their own emotions in a safe space without judgment.
