Help me give my students easy access to our "Quick Reads". When these high-interest, easy-read books are displayed rather than "hidden" in the library stacks, students are more likely to browse these titles and check them out.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our library is small and serves a student population with limited English. We also have a large number of struggling readers. Our collection of high-interest, low-level books are currently shelved with all the other library books and are not readily accessible to the reluctant reader. We want to "advertise" these books using stand alone table top shelving. The "quick reads" have interesting covers and interesting titles that appeal to reluctant readers.
At my previous school library, we found that displaying these books in the main area of the Library helped generate interest in these books and resulted in more of these books being checked out by students.
