I teach students in the inner city of Chicago. Many of my students have grown up without computers in their homes, and many of their elementary schools had limited resources in terms of technology. I have been doing a web-based research project with my students about careers, and I am helping them create Power-Point presentations as an alternative to a research paper. Most of my students have no experience with Power-Point presentations. It has been an incredibly exciting experience to watch them explore the internet, send email, and create technology presentations for the first time. Unfortunately, for as hard as my students have been working on their projects, I don't have a way for them to present them to the class. We don't have access to an LCD projector to hook up to the computer so my students can see their presentations on the big screen. This LCD projector will allow us to present these projects and countless others in our classroom. Our world is becoming more and more dependent on technology. In today's world, being computer literate is almost as important as being able to read the newspaper. I would love to give my students the ability to become just as tech-saavy as students from more affluent suburbs.
