This is my first year at PJHS as the Art teacher and these students not only respect me but I think they might just like me. These kids want to learn about art and are always asking to try new techniques and different mediums. We have a wonderful art program at the high school and the administration does an incredible job at supporting the arts.
My students are in 8th grade this semester and are creative and yearning for a way to express themselves and learn.
I am so excited to be their teacher and help guide them in finding themselves, both personally and artistically. I have all ranges of abilities and all of these students are positive and uplifting during critiques of one another's artworks.
My Project
This press will allow my students to create different kinds of art that they do not have access to at the moment. After Fall Break of this year, I plan to have the students learn to create linocuts out of linoleum and then we are going to use spoons to transfer the image on the paper. While this method is effective, it is not the most efficient nor the best way.
Printmaking is a wonderful experience and something that the students could use and reference throughout their lives.
I would love to be able to give my students a chance to try as many mediums and techniques as possible. One student may not like one part of art but may really enjoy another that they didn't yet know existed and it could open their mind up to trying out different concepts.
