I feel so lucky to know each and every one of my students. Their lives are not easy, we are a Title I school, and over 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Most of my students care or are cared for by brothers and sisters because their parents are working hard to provide for them. However, my students amaze me every day with their heart, empathy, follow-through, and hard work.
My school is one of the most diverse in our county, and with that comes the responsibility to provide my students with materials and resources that reflect who they are, and will help them to explore, grow, and have fun.
There is no doubt in my mind that my students are world changers because they are already doing it!
My Project
There are lots of tips and tricks I have learned to help students through big feelings, but one of my favorite things to do is to encourage them to focus on the things that already bring them joy.
One way we do this is by looking up some of their favorite things on the computer and printing out pictures of it, laminating it and putting it on a key ring!
As an added bonus we usually write encouraging phrases on the back to help remind them that they are awesome, or that they can do hard things!
However my school printer can not print in color, and only prints on days it feels so inclined to do so. Which in a school when you need things ASAP can be exceedingly challenging! With your support I can print calm down resources for students, confidential documents with security, and materials for colorful and engaging bulletin boards.
