I teach Spanish in an urban high school with a diverse student body. Our students mostly come from middle to working-class African American families.
There indeed is a range of motivation, however there is a strong sense of community within the school.
They are hardworking and extremely goodhearted young people.
In my classroom, I have students who range from aspiring to go to Harvard to happy to just pass the class. I have students with low motivation who need engaging materials to keep them focused and keep them believing that they can do it and succeed.
My Project
I teach Spanish in an urban high school with a diverse student body. By diverse I mean racially, socioeconomically and motivationally. No matter the student, all of our teachers create a tight bond with our students and and warm, nurturing learning environment.
As all of our World Language teacher are constantly creating new ideas and innovative ways to teach our language, we rely on having a high-functioning printer in our office to be able to bring those ideas to life.
We all create our own materials, rather than relying on textbooks, which makes the materials to print and copy those items crucial for our department. We aim to keep students engaged and motivated and love to do that by creating our own material for fun and effective teaching and learning.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
