I am the school librarian for a campus of three high schools in Brooklyn. For a decade, our campus had no library or librarian, and the space was left to fester. Now, I have been brought in to bring the space back to life once our renovation is done.
Our students are bright, hard-working, and in need of engaging material.
Now that we have a new library, we want to help it function with all of the necessities required to serve students.
My Project
Since our school library opened this past fall, students have been asking for a printer they can use in the library. With more and more of their school work going digital, students want a way to print out their papers to be turned in to teachers. Being able to properly format essays and see how formatting prints are essential college and career skills. Also, the ability to print out resumes, letters of recommendation, and application materials is incredible valuable to our seniors.
At the moment, we have no way to print in our school library.
This is a serious issue for our students, who ask daily if the library has a printer and when a printer will be available.
