My students need to have a printer in the classroom to enable them to print up their assignments they've typed up, fluency passages, math assessments I've posted online, and so on.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 2nd grade class is located in inner city Richmond, California, and all receive free lunch. Every year the majority of the students in all of the classes I've taught start the school year substantially below grade level in reading, writing and math. In response to this, my class is set up to work in leveled groups so that all levels in the class can make maximum progress.
I use technology to handle 80% of the learning materials used in my class, including having books, assignments, and assessments I've created accessible online.
Working in leveled reading/writing groups, my students have developed excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, .
My Project
Since our class is heavily based on computers, having a printer with scanner capabilities in our classroom would be a big help in maximizing student learning. This would allow students to print up assignments, assessments, worksheets, and fluency passages as needed during the school day. Having scanning capabilities would allow students to scan in papers they've handwritten, so that their parents can monitor their child's progress online.
Right now the closest printer is down the other end of the hall, close to 50 yards away.
This means that I usually am unable to print during class time, as this would mean that I have to leave my class for several minutes each time I've printed something.
The only time I get to print up student work or assessments or worksheets I've created is during recess or after school, which restricts learning activities that require printing on demand.
Another disadvantage to having a printer 50 yards away is that when I print something, I have to quickly run down the hall to get it before another teacher who is also printing grabs it by mistake. When this happens, I have to run back to class, send the doc to the printer again, and then run back down to hall to see if it's there the second time.
I've also added 2 cords to connect the student tablets to the digital projector, which we desperately need when students do student presentations.
