Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 9th through 12th graders who are all tackling an extremely challenging high school math curriculum. The students in my classes range from 13 to 18 years old. About 80% of my students have Individualized Education Plans and/or are English language learners. Most of them live and go to school in East Harlem, a diverse and culture-filled neighborhood in Manhattan. The majority of my students live in low-income housing, public housing projects, or even shelters. Many have come into the classroom carrying baggage of trauma that most people have not had to deal with in a lifetime.
Despite all that my students have to deal with outside of our school doors, they are used to coming to school EVERY SINGLE DAY—with enthusiastic smiles on their faces, ready to learn.
Our school has always been a safe and comforting place for my students who relied on the school staff for emotional support and the school building for food and warmth.
My Project
A classroom printer will make a difference for all of my students because they will be able to print out class materials at any moment. Being that this printer will be wireless, students will be able to print from their phones or class computers.
This classroom printer will be a game-changer for all students and myself included because we will be able to print out materials whenever we need them!
Contributing to our theme this year of making our classroom a home away from home, a classroom printer will be an added feature to our ability to feel comfortable in our classroom space. This printer is the last piece of the puzzle to making our classroom a productive yet cozy place for all of us!
