This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Getting dirty with clay is so much better than texting! My students want to get earthy by making beautiful pots.

My students are 98% Latino, many of them new immigrants and all of them are first generation college bound.

They are creative and face many challenges with language, poverty, gang impacted communities and lack of services. Our little charter school has only had its art program for one year so we lack basic equipment.

My Project

A small electric potter's wheel will fit perfectly in our art studio. We have partnered with a local organization that will fire our pieces. We are also asking for a basic ceramic tool kit and some sponges so that we can create beautiful pots. Clay is one of the most ancient art materials in human history, it ties us to our past, our Latino history and our bodies!

Ceramics are part of our State standards and as such they are important to our art program.

Kids love to experiment, play and persevere with a potters wheel. We also hope to fundraiser by selling some of the pieces we make.
