Pop-up books about dinosaurs, Leonardo DaVinci's inventions, seashells and American History can be compelling to students of all ages!
My library serves children from PreK through 8th grade, and in our school with many students with delayed fine motor skills or lack of experience with hands-on activities, these 3D interactive books can be the magic that hooks students on reading.
Our school doesn't have an art program, so our library arts and crafts classes offer students an amazing opportunity to explore literacy, science and art all at once. When manipulating 3D paper books that unfold before their eyes in flashes of color, students' creativity is stimulated and the library becomes a place of adventure. I want to show students that "reading" means many things and visual literacy is a necessary skill in life. I encourage students to verbalize what they see and engage in discourse about the visuals. Every positive experience in the library builds students' connection to our community.
Whole worlds open up through the panoramas, vertical and horizontal, that will open children's eyes to all different subjects and spark discussion and wonder.
