A Poem a Day, August to May

My students need a collection of poetry anthologies for genre study like Falling Up, Poems to Learn by Heart, and Miles of Smiles: A Collection of Laugh-Out-Loud Poems.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Montjoy's classroom raised $676

This project is fully funded

My Students

Our 4th grade ELA class is taking part in a 40 book challenge. One part of the challenge is to read several books from multiple genres. By the end of the year I would like for each of my students to have read at least two books from each genre. My biggest challenge is having the books to do so.

My 4th grade ELA class consists of highly motivated readers who are excited about our book challenge.

My students can be found reading in the halls, at lunch, and at recess. I want to continue to challenge them to read, but also to read books they wouldn't normally read. So far, they have been up for the challenge.

My Project

These books will have a special area in our classroom library. These books will be shelved together and labeled "poetry" in order for my students to find poetry anthologies to read as part of their 40 book challenge and genre study. Reading across genres helps students differentiate the differences between each genre. We can compare and contrast the differences as they are reading multiple texts. Students also are able to work to improve their reading fluency when reading poetry. This is a great tool to use in the reading classroom.

Donating to this project will increase my students' knowledge of the various genres and the characteristics of each genre.

Reading poetry helps students become more fluent and confident in their reading abilities. Poetry often inspires students to think creativity which will overlap into their daily lives.
