This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach in a Title I school where most students live below the poverty level. Many of my students are English Language Learners and/or have special learning needs. Our budget is already stretched thin, just covering basic materials. For this reason, it is difficult to purchase the classroom rug my students and I so desperately need.
I want my students to come into my science lab feeling like they are about to engage in solving the world’s problems.
Having a special area to sit together to participate in lessons, ask and answer questions, and have discussions is essential to their acquisition of science skills.
Schools that give students access to STEM activities and collaborative learning projects help to empower students to get ahead in higher education, opening them up to a world of higher-paying jobs and improving their odds of succeeding in any profession. Professional success will then offer students a life with more opportunities and financial security.
In order for students to engage in our science lessons, they will need a meeting area where they can work together. A rug will greatly enhance our learning environment and aid in ensuring success in all science learning this year. I am requesting a cozy nature themed rug where my future plant and wildlife biologists can learn, read, write, and collaborate on ideas together. Success in science will pave the way for success in life.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my project. My students and I hope you will consider donating and helping make this a great year!
