My students need composition notebooks to write down their thoughts. The notebooks will serve as personal journals throughout the day.

My Students
Every morning, we start the day by completing a journal entry in our notebooks. Before we dig into curriculum, we take several minutes to determine how we are feeling. I tell my students, "write about what is in your heart and your mind this morning." It supports social emotional learning.
My classroom has a diverse group of students.
They are learning independence, coping strategies, and how to develop mindfulness in tough situations. We take pride in teaching our students perspective, agency, resilience, and thinking critically/creatively.
My Project
The composition notebooks will be used in the morning for students write down their thoughts before we begin the day. It serves as a journal and a coping strategy. Students can write in their journal when feeling frustrated, angry, or sad. Writing is a coping strategy that we often do not take advantage of in the classroom. It's my goal to teach students how powerful it is to write to develop their identity and thoughts surrounding an event. Students will also have the option of reading a journal entry during community meetings.
By taking the time to write in a daily journal about our feelings and thoughts, students will develop a strong sense of identity.
It will help them regulate and utilize writing as a coping strategy. It builds a sense of community and that it's OK to have different kinds of emotions. The notebooks will help my students develop the necessary skills to succeed this year and beyond.
