This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Walk into my classroom and you will see twenty-two students noisily engaged in learning. Some students may be working together on a puzzle, building an obstacle course for robots, counting with math manipulatives, curled up with a book, or working with me in a small group. To a visitor, these students look very similar, but as their teacher, I know which student may not have had supper last night, who stayed with older siblings while Mom worked a second job, whose parents are getting a divorce and which one is homeless and living in a shelter.
Our school is a Title I school in rural South Carolina.
One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our classroom is a family. We may not begin the year that way but it is definitely how we end the year. We laugh, cry, and celebrate with each other. We care. We love.
My Project
No one is quite sure what next school year will look like. As I imagine different scenarios, I am certain that my kindergarten students will need to be spaced differently than in years past.
I am requesting a smaller classroom rug.
This will free up some of the floor space taken my my HUGE rug (that I love dearly.) The rug will be used for various floor activities throughout the day. Hopefully, it will also serve as a gathering place for the entire class. I hope my wosrt case scenarios do not come to life.
