A Place to Sit

My students need a classroom carpet that is clean enough to sit and learn on.

My Students

Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY.

It includes students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies.

The school is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts and although our families give us support they can't always help out financially.

My Project

The heart of a PreK classroom is the rug. Whenever my class is working as a whole group we are on the rug. Many students have a hard time sitting in one spot. This is especially true in PreK. This is why I am requesting a new rug with designated sitting spots for my class. Each child will get to pick a square to sit it this is their personal space while in whole group instruction. The square helps them understand personal space.

The rug is my students leaning home base.

This space will provide a positive learning environment for my little learners.
