A Place to Sit While We Learn

My Students

One of the main components of our fifth grade curriculum is our Daily Five Program. This program provides students with small group instruction with other students who share similar learning needs. Daily Five allows us to target specific learning objectives, intervention, and extension.

Our school is a model school for inclusion.

We have students who are gifted, typical performing, and students who have special needs all learning in the same classroom. Instead of pulling students out to provide them with services, we bring the services into the classroom where everyone can benefit. With the variety of learning abilities, cultural backgrounds, and interests, students learn from one another and embrace the differences that make them all unique individuals. My specific classroom includes the same kind of diversity that can be seen in our school population. Students bring their prior knowledge, experiences, and different languages into our classroom; which they are encouraged to share with their peers. My students show great enthusiasm for learning, they have a fantastic sense of humor, and they are very creative.

My Project

The stools that I am requesting for our classroom will make it easier for students to participate in our small group instruction time. Students will use the stools to sit at our kidney table where they will engage in small group instruction ;intervention, target skills, or extension. Some of the lessons I teach during small group instruction consist of explicit writing lessons, grammar, and math reasoning and computation skills. As of now, students are having to bring up their own chairs which reduces the amount of time they spend learning; not to mention that moving chairs around a classroom full of students can be challenging. Some students like to move to the kidney table during whole group instruction so that they can see the board better and maintain focus. These stools will take away the extra time we waste on moving our own chairs and thus maximize learning time. We also like to take small groups outside to learn, and these small stools would be easy to transport when needed.

Your donations for these classroom stools will improve our classroom by transforming it into a more productive learning environment.

The students will no longer worry about moving their chairs across the classroom, they will receive longer instructional/practice time, and they will be able to work outdoors for some lessons.
