This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First graders are an active an wiggly bunch, and its unfair to confine them to desks and chairs all day. We need a classroom rug where they can sit and read or lay down and play learning games. While we're sitting there, we can also watch content from the iPad projected through our LCD projector.
My students are energetic 1st graders.
They are eager to learn and happy to share that learning. They attend a medium-sized, urban, public school Like many public schools we are hard hit by the economic downturn and budget cuts. Our students are first and second generation Americans, the children of hard-working parents.
My Project
In Primary grades we do a lot of work on the rug. Unfortunately, we can't afford to replace those rugs when they become worn out and dirty. We use the floor for a lot of activities such as blending words, sitting for read-alouds, and playing indoor games. Additionally we sit on the floor and use the iPad to look up animals and other things we are studying. It would be wonderful if we had a new, high quality rug to sit on and a way for everyone to see the iPad.
As teachers and parents, we want our kids to have the best that there is to offer.
That includes giving them spaces where they can work and explore. Please help us reach our goal of continuing to create a clean, inviting, cozy classroom environment!
