My Students
We are a small K-5 school filled with students who are wonderful to work with! They are a diverse group of students in terms of race, income, gender, and ability levels, all looking for a chance to be successful. I have students who work at high levels and love to be challenged, down to students who need that nudge.
Many of them struggle with issues adults couldn't deal with, but still find a way to come to school and participate in the learning process.
We are a family of learners, myself included. Every day is a new day of learning, loving, and respecting each other. We are an awesome community working hard at being the best that we can be!
My Project
Having a sense of community in our classroom makes a huge difference in how the students engage and interact with the teacher and their peers. The carpet is a space where we hold our daily gatherings.
Feeling like part of a family lets the students understand that they are in an environment where they are loved and respected, thus learning can take place.
The students can leave their worries outside of the rug.:)
The carpet will be our meeting place for Morning Meetings, small group, Quiet Time, and Closing Circle. All times during our day when the concept that our room is a safe, respectful, loving, learning environment is reinforced.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
