My Students
My kindergarteners will begin their learning adventure on the outskirts of a large, urban district. Our school is a Title 1 school with approximately 850 students in grades PreK-5. The student body is a diverse group of learners, representing over 38 nations. We have 65 percent minority students and a 50 percent Free and Reduced Lunch population. Within this diversity is strength and determination, as our school continues to close the achievement gap while growing confident and successful learners.
Kindergarten sets the foundation for a lifetime of inquiry and a love for learning!
These little scholars are at an age when everything is still new and exciting and their quest to know "how?" and "why?" makes each day a joy to experience. I strive to provide them with experiences that will not only ignite a passion to wonder and question, but will also give them the skills to find the answers they seek.
My Project
In kindergarten, we meet on the rug for every whole group lesson, community building, story sharing, etc. At the heart of our lessons is our easel, which is used by both myself and the children. It holds our Big Books while we read and explore language, hangs our charts to review and record learning, has magnetic white boards to practice writing and building words, and so much more.
Much of our day will be spent gathered in front of the easel, learning together.
A quality easel will allow me to engage my class in interactive lessons where each of them can see and participate. We start our mornings with a morning message to build early literacy skills, then we will continue to gather for every subject. This easel also includes writing lines for students to practice proper formation, a felt attachment for story telling and language building activities, and is the perfect height for kinders to see and use.
