Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars love school and are eager to learn! They can be seen showing their leadership skills by reading to a classmate, assisting a younger scholar with classwork or organizing materials for a project. When visitors enter my classroom, they always compliment my scholars on how engaged they are in discussions about books and conversations about using innovative strategies in math.
Each of my students come from low-income homes.
The cultural make-up of our students is as follows: 91% Latino (Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador), 7% are African or African-American; and 1% are Asian. 36% of our scholars are English Language Learners. More than half of our students are part of after-school programs that allow them to be active, express themselves on stage, or develop their skills in reading, writing and math.
My Project
In order for effective learning, students need a designated space. As remote learning continues, a desk will make a difference in my students' learning by making sure they have furniture to keep them focused on virtual lesson.
Many students don't have a space in their home that is conducive to learning.
They simply need desk! By having a desk to call their own, my scholars will stay focused and understand the importance of putting your body in a position to learn. By having a desk to call their own, my scholars will have a space to focus on lessons. By having a desk to call their own, my scholars will know that school is not just in a big building with classrooms. School can also be at a desk in their apartment.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
