Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a wonderful group of students in a Title I school. Most of my students are English Language Learners and come from extremely low socioeconomic backgrounds. All of my students are receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Although their parents work a lot to make ends meet, they are still very involved in their child's education because they know that education = success.
My students are a family.
They go through the same struggles and face very similar challenges. Most of them have been together since kindergarten and will continue together until high school graduation because of the way our school's dual immersion is set up. My students are "my kids" and I want to do anything and everything I can to help them be successful.
My Project
My students need a cart to place and keep their books as well as a place to keep their assignments. Since my students come reading at different levels, they are not always able to read the same books. Having their own book totes will allow them to be able to be able to read books at their level and help them progress to higher levels in reading.
A lot of my students share spaces, beds, and clothes at home with siblings but giving them a place to put their materials in the classroom will help them take ownership of their learning.
By having cubbies where students can place their assignments, assessments, and take home papers, students will be able to see exactly what needs to be done during the day. I’m so excited to be able to give my students a place for their OWN materials and books. Thank you for helping us reach that goal!
