This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is full of eager readers with big personalities who love to learn from each other and build each other up. They represent a wide variety of cultures and life experiences, and more than half of them are English language learners.

They are resilient, curious, and unafraid to try new things or apply themselves to difficult problems.

They are coming back to school after over a year of distance learning, and have bounced back better than many adults.

My Project

A predictable rug spot is one of those small things that can make a big difference in our classroom. Some of my friendly, social students have trouble making smart choices about who to sit next to (or not to!). Transitions can be challenging, and having a rug with designated spots for each student makes it that much easier for everyone to get in learning mode quickly.

Most importantly, everyone can be right next to their thinking partners when it's time to exchange ideas!

This is a critical chance for students to actively engage with material during a lesson, and it goes much more smoothly when partners are already next to each other. This year more than ever my students thrive on routine, and I know that this simple change will have a huge positive impact.
