This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income high poverty school, our student athletes are faced with many challenges inside and outside of the classroom. We are looking to keep the students motivated to live healthy and active lifestyles by keeping them engaged in positive activities such as basketball. Having a healthier life can build self confidence which is what the majority of our students need. Playing basketball will help these students cope with the everyday struggles in their own personal lives. Our students do not have the means to help fundraise for the team, nor do they have the contacts to reach in order to donate money for their team.
My Project
This classroom carpet would be a wonderful (and needed) addition to our room. After everything going on currently and one too many spills this year, we are in desperate need of a new carpet. This carpet would be fantastic because there would be enough spots for every student in our class. We use the carpet area for whole group instruction and also small group instruction on the smart board. Each student would love the opportunity to have their our “carpet spot”! Also, not knowing what next school year will look like, this carpet will give our students more places to spread out, learn and stay healthy!
