Everyone loves to have a place to call their own - a place of comfort where they feel they belong.
I teach 5 year-old Kindergarten in rural South Carolina.
My students are bright and inquisitive. We are a Title One school with 93% of Kindergarten students receiving free/reduced lunch. Our school was featured on South Carolina's ETV's "Corridor of Shame." All of our funds for this school year have been frozen."
My Project
My students spend much of their day on the floor. We sit on our rug during our morning routine. We sit on the rug for read-aloud at least three times a day. Some of us sit on the rug during center time, and we sit on the rug to recap our day at the end of each day.
I inherited our current rug from another teacher.
It gets cleaned once a year but now it is time for a new one. One of my students this past year had serious allergy problems. She would sneeze endlessly every time we moved to the rug, and ended up sitting in a chair. The rug is so old and dirty, and desperately needs to be replaced. A new rug would help alleviate some of these problems. Thank you in advance for helping to improve the health of my students.
