This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a determined and hardworking group of academic risk-takers. They are in a dual language program and undertake grade-level content in English and Spanish. They read, write, speak, and listen across all subjects in both languages! They have a wide variety of learning styles and needs. Their diverse strengths, areas of growth, interests, and preparedness color their performance in class. However, they push themselves out of their comfort zone every day with confidence and thoughtful hard work. I admire the perseverance they demonstrate using both languages.

Many of my students come from disadvantaged homes in disenfranchised neighborhoods.

They bring challenges to the classroom that can make it difficult to focus. However, it is my goal to provide a supportive learning environment where they can grow and thrive.

My Project

The Natural Accents Ocean Classroom Carpet will provide a space for small groups to gather. While lessons are delivered to the whole class, there are a number of different learning styles and needs in this classroom of diverse learners. On the Natural Accents Ocean Classroom Carpet, students can benefit in a number of ways. They can receive additional academic support from the teacher when needed in a small group. If they master something quickly, they can move to the carpet to work on an independent project. They can also do additional practice in pairs in the form of a math game. They can conference with a partner on their writing drafts, or offer help to a classmate who might be stuck. In short, this carpet area will be used for differentiated instruction throughout the day.
