My students need a document camera to help project teaching materials, (such as texts and student work models,) onto our whiteboard instead of endless photocopies.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Nabi's classroom raised $971

My Students
Help save the environment while engaging students! This document camera projects anything: models of student work, picture books, texts, even science experiments - onto a whiteboard. Every student has a "front row seat," rather than photocopying endless copies which then just get thrown out.
My students are typical fourth graders: completely engaged by technology, and often in need of visual stimulation to stay focused.
They love to be right up front to see and do everything themselves. Our school has a diverse socioeconomic population, therefore many of them do not have access to technology at home. These are often the hardest students to engage. Using technology in the classroom excites and motivates these students to learn.
My Project
There are numerous benefits to this document camera. For example, students LOVE to have their work highlighted and shared with others as models of excellence. I can instantly place a piece of their writing under the document camera to be projected onto the whiteboard. Additionally, there is no need to photocopy one for each student, saving paper. Another way this camera can help is to project texts that our school can no longer afford to purchase. For example, we do not have the social studies workbook that we have used in previous years. I can now just project the one book I do have, along with numerous other photos, primary source documents, etc. right onto the board. Finally, this camera is capable of projecting anything you put under it: a small science experiment, model of how to play a math game, or anything else where students all want a "front row seat." Now they can have it!
There are many challenges teachers face today, but the greatest is keeping our students motivated.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire (W.B. Yeats.) Using technology in the classroom is one of the greatest ways to light this fire. This document camera has the added benefit of helping the environment by reducing the need for endless photocopying, which can be both expensive and wasteful. Please help my students see that a picture can be worth a thousand words.
