My Students

I am a proud sixth-grade teacher with an absolutely amazing class! I currently work in my hometown and I love it. However, the school I work for is a Title I school. It is located in an inner-city where poverty and crime are high and resources are incredibly low. The majority of the items in my class, (from pencils to a whiteboard, to my entire classroom library), were purchased by me at some point throughout the past five years.

My happy classroom provides a safe haven for my unique, diverse and inquisitive class.

My students have a natural love and curiosity for learning. I want to encourage them and find ways to foster a love of reading in all students.

My students need engaging picture books in order to build important comprehension strategies. The picture books will serve as mentor texts as students begin to study characterization, theme, main idea, plot, point of view, etc. The books will spark conversations and discussions while also enhancing reading, writing, and social skills. Please help provide my students with the opportunity to access the tools they need to be successful! Today a reader, tomorrow a leader!

My Project

The possibilities are endless with a good picture book! Students of all grade levels enjoy being read to, whether it's a lengthy chapter book or a whimsical picture book. In the past, picture books have opened up a variety of discussions and conversations in my sixth-grade classroom. Picture books can easily inspire students as they make connections to their own lives.

Students will have an opportunity to learn about a variety of themes including diversity, friendship, bullying, acceptance, individuality, family, dreams, love, etc.

A collection of diverse, engaging picture books will help students develop reading and writing skills. Beyond that, the books will help us build a classroom community, develop empathy, practice critical thinking skills, build listening skills, etc.
