A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

My project needs two Sony Cyber-Shot digital cameras and two memory sticks.

This project is fully funded

I teach at a public high school located in a rural, farm area. There are mostly ninth grade students in my Digital Input Technologies classes. This course is designed to introduce students to new and emerging technologies that are impacting the way individuals input information into computers and other devices. Currently, I teach this class three periods a day with 24 students in each class. I have one digital camera to use which is shared throughout the day with another teacher. Having only one camera makes it difficult to effectively teach all elements of the course and dramatically limits students' hands-on experience with the camera. There are numerous student-based projects and experiences that can be explored in this course. Student will be able to download pictures and manipulate them by removing the original background and placing themselves or an object on a different background; a feature used on many billboards, magazine covers, and other print media. Students will also be able to make collages look as though they were created by a professional. This skill could be used in web page design, advertising, school projects, and other activities. The donation of two new digital cameras and two memory sticks will enable students to spend more time with a camera thus allowing projects to be created more efficiently. These much needed items will also assist me in teaching the state's standards which include lessons on pixels, resolution, exposure controls, file formats, flash features, shooting modes, storage capabilities, downloading images, editing software, and more. Projects created with the assistance of these digital cameras can be treasured by students for a long time as well as cultivate their creativity and foster their learning. A picture is worth a thousand words; your generous donation is priceless.
