My students need a classroom camera, a memory card, and a camera case to use for various projects in the classroom.

My Students
Learning to use a camera is an exciting part of childhood. I remember taking pictures and anxiously awaiting the return of the film. With the dawn of the digital age, the wait time has changed dramatically. But the feeling a child gets when they see the images of their life on paper stays the same.
My students are a vivacious, curious, and excited group of 3-5 year olds.
We are a blended classroom, meaning that we are a very diverse group of learners with a broad array of abilities and learning needs. Each day is a new, exciting day with new goals, new opportunities, and new challenges.
Our school is located in a very economically depressed area of our city. This often means that students come to school with fewer opportunities to experience the enriching events of childhood that so many remember fondly, like playing with a camera for the first time. This also means that our school has fewer resources to place in the classroom due to tight funding and the absence of a PTO.
Our families are involved and excited. For many, this is their first experience with the school system since they themselves were students. We work hard each day to make sure they know they are welcome, involve them in our classroom, and encourage hard work at home. Good school habits are built early.
My Project
This camera would mean so much to my classroom. It would allow us to do so many things that we are not currently able to do:
1) Document - our growth, learning, and the fun we're having!
2) Explore - find new things in our environment and share them with our class practice using rich vocabulary words.
3) Structure - create picture schedules, visual prompts, shelf labels, cubby identifiers and other supports for our diverse learners.
4) Organize - whether young or old, everyone works best in a predictable, easily maneuvered environment.
5) Show off our hard work to our parents!
Having this camera will allow my children to look at their lives, their learning, and their worlds through a different lens.
By taking the pictures themselves, they are taking ownership of their world.
