My Students
Our school serves students in grades preK-12, providing a 21st Century education as well as a safe and secure learning environment. We are one of the smallest schools in New York State, but we pride ourselves on providing our students with a diverse and complete education. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and beyond, and our alumni have gone on to schools such as Princeton, Notre Dame, and Cornell.
Our photography club is comprised of 10 very talented middle school students, many of whom come from needy families and receive free or reduced price lunch.
Many of these students are classified as disabled, and participating in our club is one of the only times during the school day that they are able to shine and show how talented they are! Our group has an annual photography contest, with prizes for each student that are donated by our staff. In addition, we enter many contests, and have several local displays of our work during the year. At the present time, we are using digital cameras that are 10 years old and are hoping to replace these old cameras with newer ones.
My Project
These cameras are for our middle school students to use while they are participating in our photography club. For many of our members, this is the one time of the day where they can show what they are capable of and really shine. The look on a child's face when they have produced a piece of art that is admired by adults and students alike is priceless.
Most families cannot afford to buy a camera for their child, so these cameras will be an essential part of allowing all students to enjoy the activities that take place during our club meetings.
