Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to show everyone how much they have learned; However, they are not able to do so through a multiple choice test or essay writing. They are more comfortable creating a poster or taking a picture to use along with their presentation.

My students are new comers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development and reading.

Although they struggle to read independently, they enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groupings.

My Project

I will have the younger students print colorful images to use with their Story maps--visual representations of the elements that make up a narrative. The images on story maps will help the students focus on the important elements of narratives-theme, characters, settings, problems, plot events, and resolution-and on the relationship among those elements. I will have the older students create card stock brochures to show their comprehension of the different texts that they read; Students will have the opportunity to create designs with vibrant colors and exciting layouts.

Students will embrace the reading lessons as they will look forwards towards creating the different activities that will help them remember and share the concepts.

They will enthusiastically participate in the learning process and have fun creating different art projects.
