A Picture Book is Worth 1000 Words!

Help me give my students white boards, markers, writing supplies, and picture books about writing to create fun and engaging Writer's Workshop lessons.

My Project

As I sit here making a list I'm thinking about the students I currently teach, the students that I will soon have in summer school, and my future students. The students I work with struggle to see themselves as good writers. I want my students to see themselves as competent authors and illustrators. I want writing to be a habit that they love and look forward to doing on a regular basis. A daily Writer's Workshop using picture books that highlight the writing process will help me make this happen, but I need your help!

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will be used to create an engaging Writer's Workshop.

The large carpet will be used as a gathering place during mini-lessons and share time. The picture books will be read to create excitement and used to demonstrate and discuss specific writing skills. The paper, staplers, markers, and other supplies will be used by the students to write stories and create books. The chart paper will be used to create anchor charts that reflect the discussions we have during our mini-lessons. The whiteboards will be used by students for brainstorming and to "show what they know."

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful writing.

By implementing the Writer's Workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true authors and illustrators. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long writers. I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
