My students need compasses for projects we are currently working on and many more science projects throughout the year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science is more than reading the data and results of others. Students can learn by simply reading the steps of scientific processes. However, they love to learn when they are performing the experiments in the classroom.
Many of my students come from low income homes and many struggle academically and personally.
I teach 135 students per day, and only about 40 of these students have had previous science education. They are eager to learn and carrying out higher level experiments and creating class projects is what keeps them motivated and wanting to learn more.
My Project
I teach earth science. Throughout the year we study space and Earth processes. Some of our standards include creating diagrams of the solar system, comparing size and composition of objects in space, and demonstrating knowledge of Earth layers.
My students take pride in their ability to create color diagrams of an eclipse or detailed info graphics of the Earth layers. These compasses will allow students to prepare more professional diagrams.
The compasses represent more than just a perfect circle.
My students will not only be learning about Earth and space. They will also be learning presentation and diagramming skills and how to use a tool that they will continue need in both science and their math classes (a compass).
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
