My Students
"I get it now!" Those are the words I look forward to hearing each day with my fourth graders! These students want to learn and they want to learn through hands-on experiences. I know that these experiences lead to higher achieving students, but how can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
The students in my classroom are sometimes struggling to reach grade level mastery because of lack of materials to cater to their needs.
Our school is like a small community, serving from kindergarten all the way to eighth grade. We have fabulous teachers who work tirelessly each day to make sure students are supported. Our goal is to provide the materials to students that will help them direct their own learning. I have future doctors, lawyers, biologists, teachers, dancers, engineers and so much more in my classroom! I just want them to have the resources to develop the skills they need!
My Project
Sometimes, something as basic as an unsharpened pencil can inhibit a child’s learning. Students rely on these basic materials to get them through each and every day. Our reliable pencil sharpener has finally died, and I need to replace it ASAP!
Students need to be able to access their supplies within seconds so we can keep the learning train going, so I am asking for drawers to place at the tables.
We have done away with desks, and we are using collaborative tables to work, so we need storage drawers to hold all of our growing number of journals and supplies.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
