My Students
Kenroy Elementary has the most amazing students a school could ever want. We are a title 1 school with families who get involved to help their students succeed. We have a diverse student population. The dedication our students and their families have is like no other. Our teachers and staff are the best of the best. We are lucky at Kenroy to have this winning combination of community support and students who succeed!
My Project
We need a sensory pathway at Kenroy. A sensory path is a colorful, creative, and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, etc., which enables kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks. Sensory toys help them to relax, focus and calm down to a particular scenario or event. It helps them grasp things with decreased fear and discomfort and enables them to play naturally. Sensory toys for kids help them develop social learning skills like planning, negotiating, and sharing. Benefits of Social/Emotional Learning Academic success include developing stronger social/emotional skills improves the academic performance of students, fewer behavioral problems. Students engaged in Social Emotional Learning are less aggressive and disruptive in school, have less emotional distress, positive social behavior.
The sensory paths give students a chance to spend a few minutes of their school day walking, jumping, bouncing, and “pushing themselves through their distractions.
Experts say sensory paths can also help students develop motor skills, including balance, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness.
Sensory hallways allow the transitions between lunch, recess, and classrooms to be interactive and fun! Create some walls with different textures using our Sensory Mini Mats. They let kids run their hands along them to release a bit of energy, while still keeping class lines moving.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
