A New Xylophone for Beautiful Music

My students need a soprano xylophone to replace a very old instrument that is beyond repair.

My Students

My students are energetic and creative. They love coming to music class twice a week. We're a Title 1 school with many musical opportunities. We have an after school choir, an after school world music drumming ensemble, band and orchestra. Almost every grade level performs in a special concert once a year.

Music gives my students a creative outlet during their day.

They are often in the driver's seat of their class. The students decide where to take a lesson and how to improve their musicianship as individuals or as a class. They have opportunities to try new things in a supportive atmosphere and can refine their musicianship in areas they feel they are strong.

My Project

We have a very old soprano xylophone in our classroom that needs to be replaced. We still use it every day because there are far more students than xylophones in each class period. It's already a challenge to get every student on a xylophone long enough to explore and practice the musical skills and objectives for each lesson. These skills and objectives include learning to play the melodies we sing, improvising melodies, and learning patterns to accompany our singing. We sing and play music from all over the world! The xylophone I am requesting is a Studio 49 Series 1600 instrument. Studio 49 is known for high quality instruments that stand up to years of classroom use.

My students deserve to play and learn on an instrument that sounds beautiful.

I would like for as many of my students as possible to have their own instrument for classroom activities. It helps them learn more quickly than when they have to share. It takes me less time to assess their learning when they have their own instruments. When my students play on our old instrument, they are quickly frustrated by the sound. They begin to focus on their frustration rather than on the task at hand. We cannot use this instrument during performances, which means fewer students get to perform on xylophone for their families and community. A new instrument would be a fantastic gift for my students now and for years in the future.
