This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The children have spent the year observing the hermit crabs. They have seen them grow . The tank is too crowded. Like my pre- k children who have grown a lot, our pet hermit crabs have grown. They have changed their shell to larger shells and now they need a new larger tank.
My pre-k student attend an inner city public school .
They come from varied socio economic backgrounds. My pre-k students are very inquisitive. They love to observe our class pets, and their vocabulary and prior knowledge base is constantly growing as they learn first- hand about these unique creatures. Many speak other languages at home, and I see them eagerly teaching their family members about our class pets.
My Project
The new tank will enable the children to observe the hermit crabs more-easily. They will be able to see them grow and move around. They will ask questions about what they see. As they make new observations, they are laying the foundation for scientific inquiry and reasoning.
The CD we are requesting will serve as a reference for the students to add to what they already know.
Preschool is a crucial and pivotal point in a young student's life.
They can learn to love and be inspired to find out more at this age, and what better way than with living organisms. We have been getting by with a small tank, but with a bigger one we can teach students not only about an animal, but about our responsibility to living things and how we can help them thrive.
