My students need supplies in order to be able to create scenic pieces for our stage and production. In my cart I have various art supplies including paints, brushes, muslin and gels for lighting effects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from Houston's East End. It is an economically disadvantaged neighborhood where crime is a common occurrence and there is little opportunity for any artistic expression O Middle School is offering theatre for the first time this year in order to provide these children with that experience. My students come from homes where the arts are not important and parents struggle to survive. As their teacher, through my project, I would like to provide for them the opportunity to experience the arts firsthand.

My Project

This is a brand new program for our school and the students are embarking on a new frontier which they have never had the opportunity for previously. O is located in Houston’s East End and most of the students come from economically disadvantaged homes. They have not had the opportunity to experience the thrill of creating art through theatre. My project is asking for art supplies to assist them in achieving their goal of learning theatre and set design. It is important for them to learn about the arts and what is a better way than through the theatre? I can’t wait to see the look of excitement on the students’ faces, when they open the boxes of supplies received from wonderful donors like you. It will be a special time for Ortiz theatre students who are not used to receiving such kind gifts.
