A New Approach to Math

Help me give my students a variety of learning opportunities in the classroom. The supplies within this project primarily focus on providing students with a new approach to learning math in a more hands-on way.

My Students

Every day in 5th grade is exciting and new! Every day is also unpredictable in so many ways. Not only do I wonder each day what my students will say and do, but I also wonder what is going to change because of COVID-19. My students, however, are so flexible! In our classroom we have a "Growth Mindset." We understand that it is okay to make mistakes and change can be good!

My students are eager to learn, try new things, and always remain flexible.

They bring so many different assets and talents to our classroom. As the world around us is always changing, my students need to prepare for their futures.

My Project

This project will provide my students with the opportunity to approach math in a new and different way. They will be able to analyze concepts such as volume using play-doh, and even solve problems in a more creative way using chalk outside. The dice provide a plethora of learning opportunities, as there are an endless amount of ways to use them within our classroom.

The supplies and materials within this project will help my students learn math beyond a textbook.

Math should be engaging! This project provides a path for my students to not only be engaged, but to see math in the real world! Additionally, these supplies can be used for other subjects, especially science in particular. The play-doh and cubes could demonstrate properties of matter, among other things. The possibilities are endless!
