My Students
My students are English as a Second Language learners. The first language of my students is Spanish, with one student who speaks Vietnamese.
My students are working hard to build their vocabulary, as well as improve their oral and reading skills.
They love being able to be creative as they are learning. Our school is home to students that come to us from a wide range of socio-economic status. The majority of my students come from moderate to low-income households.
My Project
Students will be coming to me for ESOL intervention throughout the day. I want to set up a learning environment that is conducive to learning, but is kind of a little change from their regular classroom environment.
I want to provide for my students a learning environment that they can feel comfortable in, and will be eager to return to each day.
Students typically sit in a chair at their desk most of the day. I want to provide a space where they can relax and feel comfortable while they are learning rather than using traditional desks and chairs. I would like to provide lap desks and flexible seating through the use of beanbag chairs for my students as an alternative to the traditional desks and chairs. My goal is to hopefully reduce some anxiety they may feel about learning and to allow them to have the opportunity to be successful learners.
