A Multicultural Library

My students need 42 diverse and relevant book titles such as "Al Capone Does My Shirts" by Gennifer Choldenko. Reading and comprehension are a big concern at our school. In order to encourage students to read, you must have materials that related to them personally. This proposal will help me to increase the quality of my classroom library and will give my students greater access to reading material.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. W.'s classroom raised $485

This project is fully funded

I teach eighth grade language arts in a predominately rural community in North Carolina.

My students need a classroom library that is relevant and diverse with reading material that offers an accurate look at cultures and peoples from across the US and the world. Living in a rural community can sometimes limit your view of the world and people. A library that offers reading material that depicts the lives of middle and high school students throughout the world will offer my students a window into the world around them. The books selected are award winning novels that have received recognition from many middle school and high school libraries. A classroom library offers students easy access to relevant reading material. My students must spend time during class reading self-selected materials and they often use classroom library materials. It is important to have quality materials available for them to read.

You can help me provide relevant reading material to my students. At the same time, we can show them a view of the world beyond their home and community.

Your help will insure that my students have an unlimited view of the world around them and an appreciation for cultures and peoples other than their own.
