This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Special needs students have been affected by all the challenges of COVID-19. Teaching students handwriting is challenging as most of the students don’t like to write. Therefore using a multi-sensory approach to handwriting where they are using chalk or acrylic paint to write on the stones, watercolors to color pictures, and metallic paint to write on their personalized t-shirts is so much fun and enhances their participation. As an occupational therapist, I worked with different cognitive levels of students and they would benefit from cool art projects to explore handwriting skills. I have seen that it also helps them to retrain their skills for a longer time.
I always try to make activities functional, and enjoyable and help them to enhance their creativity.
I try to provide materials for them at home so that the parents can incorporate handwriting by making creative art projects. These supplies will help my students to improve their fine motor and visual motor skills and enhances their academic goals.
