My Students
Help my students learn by doing, not just by reading about it! My students love to learn by participating and conducting experiments. With your help, we will be able to dissect cow eyes, look at models of the heart and lung, and have aprons and gloves for safety of my students during numerous labs.
Many of my students come from low-income households.
However, they are very bright and interested in learning about science. They thoroughly enjoy doing laboratory experiments. My students always say that my class is the "fun" class. Granted my class is fun, but the students are also learning valuable lessons while having fun in the process. Our school prides itself on having each student reach their personal best in learning.
My Project
Last year through the generosity of donors from Donors Choose, my students were able to dissect cow eyes. At the end of the year, I asked the students what their favorite experiment for the year was. 95% of the students responded that they enjoyed the cow eye dissection the most. My students will actually get to cut into a cow eye and get to feel the parts of a real cow eye instead of just reading about it in a book. The heart and lung models will help us to identify the parts of these organs. The aprons and gloves will provide protection for my students during numerous labs throughout the school year.
Research shows that students learn best when they have quality instruction, rich vocabulary instruction, and hands-on experiments.
