it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Here at Port Richmond High School, I have the privilege of working with some of the best students in New York City. What I love most is being able to witness each student reach his/her own potential.
Sometimes it's over the course of a school year, sometimes it takes a little longer, but when students enter my class, no matter what struggles may stand in their way, they will see that through reading, writing, speaking and listening, anything is possible.
I work with many amazing students who come from a variety of backgrounds, interests, talents, challenges and more. Throughout the course of the year, I love watching each student discover more about their identity as they interact with different texts, creative writing, and each other via discussions and activities.
My Project
Graphic novels are very popular among high school students but the classics provide a foundation to the universal truths of life. This project provides the best of both worlds by allowing students to take read the classics in a different format.
From The Odyssey to Romeo and Juliet to Edgar Allan Poe and poetry, along with some other wonderful gems, the goal of this project is to provide students with a foundation for future reading.
Throughout the year, students will be reading and analyzing the classics and allowing them to read the graphic novel versions side by side will help to reinforce the major themes of each text.
